Cathy Freeman Foundation announces new CEO

The Cathy Freeman Foundation would like to announce the appointment of Jade Colgan to the position of Chief Executive Officer to the Cathy Freeman Foundation, commencing 20 August, 2018.

Jade is a Barkindji Woman, of the Barkindji people of NSW. Born and raised in Melbourne, Jade is a mother of four who is passionate about culture and family. Jade has worked in various roles where the core thread has been to contribute and see real and prosperous outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

“The Cathy Freeman Foundation is thrilled to welcome Jade to the role of CEO. She is a thought leader with a proven and strong record of strategy, management and leadership oversight and delivery,” said Assoc. Prof. Gregory Phillips, Chair of the Cathy Freeman Foundation.

In most recent years Jade has been with AFL SportsReady as the Executive Manager of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Programs. Prior to that, Jade held roles at the Victorian Department of Justice where she was able to put to work her skills and knowledge gained from her time as the inaugural State Coordinator of the Victorian Indigenous Youth Advisory Council, now known as the Koorie Youth Council.

“We look forward to Jade bringing her passion, expertise and wealth of knowledge to take our organisation to the next level,” said Cathy Freeman, Co-Founder and Director of the Cathy Freeman Foundation.

Jade is passionate about young Indigenous people, about communities and about education.

“Culture, family and pride need to go hand in hand with education and this is the key to a brighter future,” said Jade Colgan, incoming CEO of the Cathy Freeman Foundation.

“I am excited about the journey ahead as CEO of the Cathy Freeman Foundation and look forward to the many discussions, experiences and triumphs ahead.”
