Thank You
With the school year coming to an end, we’d like to acknowledge and give thanks to all of the amazing people that continue to support Indigenous kids in school and ensure the success of our program delivery in the wonderful communities that we work with.
We have started referring to this amazing team as the ‘Dream Team’ because every child has a dream and with the right start, supported by the right team their dreams can come true.
This year there was much to celebrate starting with the 10 year anniversary since establishing our first community partnership with Palm Island. It is a milestone that highlights our growth as an organisation, but most importantly the education achievements of the students we work with.
As the year closes, we are proud to celebrate the graduation of 18 Year 12 students across all four community partners, which is 50% more graduates than last year.
From our supporters to the parents, teachers, Elders, students and our local community staff, each have played an important role in their successful school journey.
Another highlight from 2017 was the launch of the Back to School march in our Northern Territory communities; Galiwin’ku and Wurrumiyanga. This initiative aims to encourage families to return to community in time for day one of term and rewards students who attend the first day of school. The march includes all local stakeholders and moves through the community before dropping students off to school. It has been a powerful and symbolic gesture of community support for education and a collective example of the ‘all in' approach to education.
In the following months we would like to introduce you to some of the ‘Dream Team’ from our incredible community partners making a difference through the power of education. You can meet some of them here.
Thank you to everyone who has been part of the Cathy Freeman Foundation ‘Dream Team’ in 2017.
