Andrew Cannon AM has already covered a whopping 3000km through the Australian Outback in a vintage 1924 Vauxhall, all in the name of raising funds and awareness for the Cathy Freeman Foundation.
After a few mechanical issues with the carburetor and starter motor in Alice Springs, the car's as good as gold and Andrew is now on his way to Darwin.
The stop in Alice was full of action with the Henley-on-Todd Regatta and Andrew even had the unique experience of holding the iconic Melbourne Cup!
The car is receiving a lot of attention along the way and when not driving, Andrew is meeting with key community stakeholders to discuss the importance of the Cathy Freeman Foundation's work. It was wonderful to see Alice Spring's Mayor Damien Ryan chatting to Andrew about the Foundation's work and the importance of supporting Indigenous education initiatives.
Andrew has also been busy talking about the Foundation to media such as radio ABC Alice Springs, local Indigenous station CAAMA radio and an interview on Melbourne's Hot Breakfast Triple M radio program.
Bidding farewell to Alice on Monday, Andrew's journey continues through to Barrow Creek, Tenant Creek and then Katherine. Joining him for the stunning drive north to Darwin is founding Treasurer of the Foundation, Richard Thomas and the Foundation's longtime friend and supporter, Triple M Melbourne's Mick Molloy.
