OUR TEAM

As an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation, our community-based staff are the heart and soul of Murrup. We are proud to have a permanent presence in community; we’re not fly-in, fly-out.

We offer stable, continuous employment to First Nations staff across four remote communities and empower them with skills and opportunities to continue their professional journey and support them as they become role models in their community.

Our locally-based staff are a responsive point of contact within each of our partner communities for information, resources and support, and act as a trusted conduit between services and schools and young people and their families.

Shellee Strickland is a strong Aboriginal woman born and raised on GunaiKurnai Country with cultural connections to Yorta Yorta and Torres Strait Islander People.

She has a wealth of senior management experience working in community-controlled organisations across a range of services that support First Nations Peoples and has worked in a diverse range of services, including health, justice, family violence, mental health and family services and brings with her a profound understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities faced by First Nations communities. Notably, Shellee spearheaded the reform of the Gippsland and East Gippsland Aboriginal Cooperative and presented evidence at the Yoorrook Justice Commission.

Since joining Community Spirit Foundation in August 2023, Shellee has lead a complete review of the organisation. Her focus has been to ensure every element of work is designed and executed with culture and its core, and that we achieve maximum reach and impact in line with legislation and best-practice standards. As part of this, she has travelled to each of our partner communities, where she has been honoured to meet with the community teams, stakeholders and children and the young people we work with, who inspire her every day.
